HiMem.si
Pre-launch. We open when the 10 Gbps circuit is lit.

64 GB of RAM for $50 a month.

High-memory virtual machines on paid-off Xeon servers in a telephone central office in Nova, Ohio. The cores are old and the memory is plentiful. If your workload is hungry for RAM and patient with CPU, this is the cheapest honest place to run it.

Pick how much of a host you want

Every host has 512 GB of memory and 48 processor threads. We sell seven 64 GB slices and keep the eighth for the hypervisor, so nothing is oversold. Choose a size and see your share of the machine.

Memory is reserved for you, not shared or ballooned. A vCPU is one hardware thread, and two threads make one physical core, so 6 vCPUs is three cores' worth. Billed monthly. Cancel whenever you like.

The trade is simple, so we will say it plainly

These servers left someone else's data center years ago. That is why the memory is cheap, and it is also why some workloads belong somewhere else.

What you get

  • Far more RAM per dollar than a current-generation cloud instance.
  • ECC registered memory, reserved to your VM.
  • A 1 Gbps port behind a 10 Gbps uplink.
  • Your own public IPv4 address.
  • Full root on a KVM virtual machine.

What you give up

  • Per-core speed. These are 2013 Xeons and feel like it.
  • AVX2 and AVX-512. Software that requires them will not start.
  • An uptime guarantee. One site, one uplink, no SLA.
  • Phone support. Help is by email, from people who run the gear.

Runs well here

  • In-memory caches and key-value stores
  • Database replicas and analytics that fit in RAM
  • Large JVM heaps
  • CI runners and build farms
  • Dev, staging and self-hosted services

Look elsewhere for

  • Game servers that need fast single threads
  • Anything that must stay up through a site outage
  • Builds compiled for x86-64-v3 or newer
  • Bulk email

Questions people ask first

Why is it this cheap?

The servers are a decade old and cost very little to buy. The building, power and network were already here for the telephone exchange. We pass that on instead of pricing against the big clouds.

How slow is "slow"?

Expect roughly half the single-thread speed of a current server CPU. Work that spreads across cores or mostly waits on memory is fine. Work that depends on one fast thread is not.

Is there an uptime guarantee?

No. This is a single site with a single uplink and old hardware. We keep spare parts on hand and fix things quickly, but you should keep backups somewhere else.

What is not allowed?

Spam, port scanning, attacks on other networks and anything illegal in the United States. Outbound port 25 is closed by default.

Can I rent a whole server?

Yes. The whole-host plan gives you all 512 GB and both processors, 24 cores and 48 threads, with no other tenants.
